The cover of the first issue of “Comet Stories”, dated December 1940, is a work of art by Leo Morey. “Comet Stories” was a pulp magazine that published five issues from December 1940 to July 1941. The magazine was edited by F. Orlin Tremaine, who had previously edited “Astounding Stories”, a leading science fiction magazine of the time. Despite its short run, the magazine managed to publish fiction by several well-known and popular writers, including E.E. Smith and Robert Moore Williams. It’s also worth noting that the magazine paid one cent per word for stories, which was more than many of the other science fiction magazines at the time.
